Welcome to my website. I love painting the Muskoka and Haliburton landscape, especially on location. My favourite medium is oil paint. When the weather is miserable, I stay home and paint abstracts or still life in my boathouse on Shoe Lake, near Dorset, Ontario.
I have always painted. While I studied art at the University of Guelph, at the Haliburton School of the Arts, and with many noted North American artists, it's really just painting every day that has taught me the most.
As a teen, I travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East and lived in Crete, Greece and studied in Paris, where I was bombarded with great art. I was raring to make art of my own. It took me a while to come around to doing that seriously. When I came back to Canada, I studied language and literature, taught high school, married Brad Johnson, moved to the boonies, raised four kids in the wilderness, often educating them myself. But all through those years, I painted whenever I could, and when I couldn't, I dreamt of painting. Today, I paint full time from November to May. In the summer, my kids and I own and run a wood-fired pizzeria in Dorset. Pizza on Earth has its own website.
If you want to see more of my work, you can email me or phone me. Some pieces are in the Britton Gallery in Bracebridge, some at the Eclipse Gallery at Deerhurst in Huntsville. I have solo shows around the province which are posted on my website and social media. More reliably, my paintings are at my studio on Shoe Lake. You can always book an appointment to see them in real life and up close. My next solo show will be in the spring of 2021. Not sure exactly where just yet.
