Interiors and Still Life

"When it is too cold or snowy to go outside, I paint the interior spaces that I occupy: my home, my café, my gallery, and views from windows."

Vintage Gas Pumps
I saw this collection of old gas pumps in a barn several years ago and have been thinking about it every since. I thought it would make a very. colourful and novel painting. The owner kindly let me in to paint it over two days. It was the end of January and I froze, standing in the unheated basement of an old barn. But, it was worth it! All paintings come framed in a solid maple floater frame, made locally in Dorset.

This is Ahne who manages the cafe at our pizzeria. I love the big cafe windows that transform typical stainless steel, commercial equipment into shimmering shapes of reflected light. The painting comes with a solid maple floater frame.

My husband has a wonderful workshop which inspires him to make anything we need in the pizzeria, cafe or home. It also inspires me to paint the countless unusual shapes and colours.

Gerbera and Iris
Gerbera flowers are special to me, because my dear late friend and collegue used to leave Gerbera flowers on my desk. They brightened my day and my classroom. The iris remind me of spring and of another friend who had a huge bouquet of iris on her dining room table last month. They were so beautiful that I ran out and bought myself my own bouquet or iris

Breakfast in the Gallery
This is my art gallery - a small room attached to the cafe. I like to sit in the chairs and have a coffee and a croissant and look out over the frozen garden and look at the tower on the big hill. Here I often answer my email or post my work and it is here that I meet my art customers.

The Hearth-pic
The Hearth
My clever husband built a Rumford fireplace in our living room. It's tall and shallow and reflects the heat well into the room. It's like having a big, snapping bonfire right in the house. I love to sit in front of it with a. cup of tea. All of my paintings come framed in a solid maple floater frame.

Closing Time-pic
Closing Time
In the month of January, when everyone has left the cafe and the lights are turned off, I pull out my easel and paint the sudden quiet, calm. and the greys of the fading winter light. It's 4;30 and I am standing in my art gallery, looking through the doorway to the closed cafe. All paintings are framed in a solid maple floater frame, custom-made in Dorset.
